This is an ACA sanctioned event. All participants in ACA-insured activities must wear properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejackets (Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) at all times during on-water activities. We will camp Friday and Saturday nights at Holbrook Park, a property of Calcasieu Parish LA. On Saturday we will do a 11 mile Level 2 paddle on the West Fork of the Calcasieu River and Houston River from the park to the Anthony Ferry boat launch. Paddling will be on sheltered flat water and the level is 2 only because of the distance. This trip should be suitable for long or short kayaks, canoes, pirogues, SUPs, gondolas, bottle rafts, and bathtubs. Bring lunch in your boat and we will find a place to stop and eat.

I have reserved four tent sites with water but no electricity that you can buy from me at the $4/night/site cost. If you want a trailer site (back-in), you should quickly reserve your own for $12/night HERE . The park is small but has rest rooms and showers and gets very good reviews. Tent sites look nice but the trailer sites look small. I have not reserved any trailer sites and I am told they will likely fill up.

There is presently a burn ban in Calcasieu Parish. We'll see if that lasts until our trip.

Directions -- Driving time from downtown Houston is 2 1/2 hours on a good day. Take I-10 or US 90 eastward from Houston almost to Lake Charles. Take Exit 21 and turn north on LA 27. For detailed instructions to the park, use your phone. Check in time is 2 PM. Check out time is 1 PM.

Hazards -- A boat ramp can always be slippery. South Louisiana has snakes, fire ants, spiders, and (rarely) bears, rattlesnakes, and tarantulas. Have plenty of water and spare warm clothing in a dry bag. Dress for immersion in cool water. No cotton, please.

Guests – You are welcome to join us for a couple of paddle trips.  As per our insurer, we will collect $11 from each non-American Canoe Association (ACA) participant via this PayPal Link:  HASK Guest PayPal $11 ($1 to cover PayPal transaction). Hopefully you will then join HASK and continue paddling with us.
