This is an ACA sanctioned event. All participants in ACA-insured activities must wear properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejackets (Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) at all times during on-water activities. This session offers practice and training in basic techniques (balance, bracing, hip-snap) related to self-rescues and in applying those techniques to advanced self-rescues (cowboy, roll).

This training is restricted to participants in decked kayaks with a spray skirt who must be able to do a wet exit with the skirt on.


The location is "Scotts Ridge Swim Area & Boat Launch" on Lake Conroe. This is in a USDA Forest Service area. The training will take place on a sandy beach a quarter mile around the headland from the launch area.


Directions:

From I-45 take exit 94 (FM 1097), west 8.5 miles to Scotts Ridge Road, turn right (north). Go about another mile and pay the $5 fee at the entrance (plastic accepted). There are two sides to the site. The swim area (a no boat zone) is on the left as you go in. Go to the right to the boat launch area.
