We will paddle from a small beach on Travel Air Road into West Bay and circumnavigate one or two Bird Islands.

Parking is off the roadside and there are no facilities at the put-in. There should be little to no motor boat traffic once out in the bay.

The put-in can be reached from Interstate 45 by exiting right onto 61st Street and traveling south on 61st Street to its intersection with Stewart Road. Turn right (west) on Stewart Road and drive 3 miles west and turn right onto 99th Street. Bear right onto Travel Air Road and our little beach will be on your left. This is adjacent to the west side of the Moody Gardens Golf Course. Park along the roadside and unload your gear.

We will meet at 8:30 AM and launch at 9:00 AM. We will find a place for a lunch stop, probably at the west end of Sportsman's Road before the home stretch of our paddle.

The put-in beach is located at:
Latitude
(degrees, minutes, seconds) N:  29° 15' 59"
Longitude (degrees, minutes, seconds) W:  94° 52' 24.60"

Our route will look something like this:
Galveston to Bird Islands

Hazards -- Sunburnwindburn, heat exhaustion, oysters, pilings, boat traffic,  jellyfish, stingrays, fire ants. Slight chance of bears, rattlesnakes, and tarantulas. We will try to avoid hazards. Most importantly, bring plenty of water, sun protection and lunch/snacks.
