This is an ACA sanctioned event. All participants in ACA-insured activities must wear properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejackets (Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) at all times during on-water activities. Attendees pay for their own charges
This event will include a short (5 mile) round trip bike ride and a 6 or 9 mile round trip paddle. You can do both activities or just the paddle trip. This event will help you prepare you for the bicycle-kayak duathlon, which I expect may be a new Olympic sport in 2024.

We will meet at Ponderosa Marina (27400 Huffman Cleveland Road, Huffman TX 77336) at 9:15 AM to hit the road on bicycles at 9:30. We will ride to BJ's Marina (27907 Calvin Road, Huffman TX 77336) and back, a 5 mile round trip. We will put bicycles back on/in our cars and load up kayaks to paddle out at about 11:00 AM. We will paddle a round trip either to BJ's Marina (6 mile RT) or to a sand bar (9 mile  RT) on the San Jacinto River for a lunch stop.

The bike ride is on back roads and I expect traffic will be light. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. The paddle is along the shore of Lake Houston, mostly protected, rated (by me) at Level 1.5  Bring the gear you need for a short bike ride followed by a shortish paddle, including water, lunch, and sunscreen. Bring a bike lock if you can't stow it in your car while we paddle.

Parking is good at Ponderosa and costs $7 cash. There is a 3 Star porta-potty. NO SHUTTLE WILL BE REQUIRED.

Hazards --Some vehicular traffic on roads with no shoulders. Small boat traffic on the lake. Slippery boat ramp, fire ants, wasps, and the usual southeast Texas mosquitos, bears, rattlesnakes, and tarantulas.

Guests – You are welcome to join us for a couple of paddle trips.  HASK will cover the $5 ACA event membership for non-ACA members. Hopefully you will then join HASK and continue paddling with us.
