A jewel on the Texas mid coast. Roughly 185 miles southwest of Houston. The bays and passes in the area offer undisturbed shorelines studded with mangroves and quiet coves to study wading birds, sea turtles and maybe cast a line for a tasty redfish. The water in Aransas Bay and South Bay is very clear with healthy sea grass bottoms.

Dates: Friday Oct 11 through Sunday Oct. 13th (with Optional Thursday night rendezvous in Aransas Pass).

Predicted Temperatures: 85 Highs, 65 deg Lows

The planned campsite is on the Quarantine Shoreline, which has been fully vetted by the area Boy Scouts, led by long time local kayak guide Dean "Slowride" Thomas.

Here is the itinerary:
Thu. Oct 10. 2013:  Meet in Aransas Pass Thursday night. 7 of us are staying at the Redfish Bay Cottage at 945 N. Commercial [ http://redfishbaycottage.webs.com/ ] where we can group up, make dinner and hang out. I can recommend the cabins at the Don-Ell RV & Cabins in Aransas Pass.  They are basic, simple and inexpensive.  And just yards away from The Redfish Bay Cottage where you can leave your kayak inside a high fence.  Call the Don-Ell at 361-758-5218 -
128 E Myrtle Ave, Aransas Pass, TX 78336 (No Website )

Friday. Oct. 11:  Put in at 11 AM at the Fin & Feather RV & Marina at 100 Stedman Is. on Hwy 361, the Port Aransas causeway. [ http://finandfeather.justgofishin.com/ ]

Parking is free and known to be safe at Fin & Feather. But don't leave valuables showing.

Set up camp, paddle 4.5 miles up Corpus Christi Bayou to the shoreline, fish, explore the area around Mud Island. Cook a group meal.

Saturday Oct 12:  Paddle the lighthouse trail to the Lydia Ann lighthouse. 6.8 miles. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/paddlingtrails/coastal/lighthouse_lakes/.

Or circumnavigate Mud Island. About 12 miles.  There are dolphin pods that usually hang out in the Lydia Ann Channel and are good for a show. We can check out Port Aransas if we can take out there. Group meal, more stars.

Sunday Oct. 13: Enjoy the morning, break camp and paddle back. Conditions are right for practicing rolls and bracing.

Note: Contact the the trip leader Chris if your schedule calls for put-in or take-out outside of the itinerary. Depending on companions and paddling skills we can work it out.
