About this event
Friday: Meet our shuttle in Bay City, TX. Ride down 33 miles to Sargent Beach. Put in there. Strike out across the Southern shoreline of E. Matagorda bay that separates the Gulf from the bay. The crossing is about 25 miles, so we need to paddle about 8-10 miles for Friday night's campsite. Here we can set up, and with some luck, catch some fish.
Saturday, continue to the next camp site. Sunday, take out on FM 2031 across from Rawling's Bait Camp. The plan is to have our trailered vehicles in Matagorda at the Harbor. Collect the shuttle vehicles / trailers, load up and rendezvous with the rest of the cars in Bay City. (Another option is to meet in Matagorda on Friday, load up the trailer shuttle there, then drive over to Sargent. On Sunday, we get to our cars in Matagorda and load up for the drive home.
We stick to 2-3 paddler groups. Must have at least one VHF radio and working GPS per group. We look for a steady SE wind to have wind mostly at our backs as it blows across the dunes. A Northerner will build a chop on the bay and make for difficult paddling. So we'll watch the weather closely before heading down to the coast.
