About this event

Trip Description:
From downtown Houston, take I-45 South towards Galveston, exit 16 towards Texas City.

Bring a thermos with a hot drink and pack lunch for a midway break.

This advanced trip involves paddling in semi-open/open water in Texas winter conditions, with potential L2/L3/L4 conditions: winds up to 15 knots, waves/swells under 3 feet, and distances over 10 miles.

Participants need reliable self-recovery techniques, rescue training, and sound sea kayaks with deck lines and bulkheads. A working roll, spray skirts, and dry suits or neoprene tops are recommended.

Hazards include cold weather/water, wind, heavy boat traffic (container ships, oil tankers), and crossing boat lanes.

Bring lunch, water, spare dry clothes, and sun protection. We'll stop for lunch on a shell beach or island.

Check Google Earth for the lay of land.
