Have some fun this Spring, come out and paddle with friends from all over Texas. This event is being organized by Lynne Andrus, ACA Regional Director and Chris Arceneaux ACA Texas State Director, and  HASK Commodore.

Please see PDF park map for LCRA South Shore Park and lake map for LCRA Lake Bastrop and PDF reservoir map for LCRA Lake Bastrop. Planned activities include fun paddles and games in the waterfront's protected coves, nearby explorations, and a four mile half day trip from LCRA's North Shore Park to our home base on South Shore Park.

Some accommodations have been secured, a few of the park's cabins and four campsites. Contact Lynne at (512) 917-0939 or Lynne@RiverCoast.com to obtain a site or source out accommodations on your own.  First come, first serve.  Sites with names are taken but may have tent space nearby. Contact Chris or Lynne for information.

Fee to enter the park: Adults $5, Seniors & Disabled $2 and Children <12 Free.

Below are the paid reservations with up to five in four bunkbeds in cabins and up to eight in tent/RV. Two vehicles with the rest in overflow parking.  Cabins are taxed.

Get a buddy or two or three and split the Cabin / Campsite Fee.  It would be best that each Cabin or Campsite have a "Leader" who collects and then pays Lynne.  Better in advance then later. Both Lynne and I will have our hands full.

Cabins
Fri – Sat nights  (but it looks like Sundays are available if we want to add on).  Day passes not pre-paid.

  Cabin 54    $143 + $18.59 + $6 = $167.59 (two nights)

  Cabin 55    $143 + $18.59 + $6 = $167.59 (two nights). Chris, Phil & David L.

Go online and check out the cabins.  Bring your own linens, showers are separate from the cabins. Cook in a common area or on the porch.  Ask site owners if you can "sublet" part of their space.

Camp  (tent and/or RV)   Fri – Sat – Sun nights.  Includes water and electricity.  (Room for RV/Trailer plus another vehicle and individual tents with up to 8 people at most sites.)

  Site 12 - Lynne    $112.50 + $6 + $36= $154.50 (three nights)

  Site 14 - Gary   $112.50 + $6 + $36 = $154.50 (three nights)

  Site 16 - Grant/Nancy    $112.50 + $6 + $36 = $154.50 (three nights)

  Site 13 - Chuck              $ 75.00 + $6 = $81.00 (no day pass / waterfromt)

Site 13 is not waterfront and does not include the day use fees.  Bring your favorite paddle craft, canoe, kayak, SUP, or fishing boat. Label all your gear since many paddles and such may be identical.

Activities:  1.) David Lehman, will lead a Lake Bastrop circumnavigation Saturday morning.

2.) Chuck, will conduct a "Blind Spot" paddle activity. It goes like this:  2 buoys are set out. Paddlers each draw a chip from the hat and team up by color. Paddler #1 is blindfolded. Paddler #2 is the eyes of the team. Paddler #1 navigates through the Buoys forward then backward, directed by his Paddler #2's verbal commands. Paddlers #1 and #2 trade places. The Fastest time wins.

3.)  Chris will lead a game called "Rising Tide":  3-member teams are created.  Each team paddles out to a float on the lake.  P (paddler) 1 switches kayaks with P2 at Float-1.  P3 assists P1 & P2.  The team then paddles to Float-2 and repeats the switch. Team paddles back to the starting point.  It can be timed or it can be done as a relay race. The more teams doing it at the same time means more floats equally spaced.

4.)  Phil has offered to work on rolling.  Lynne can help also with rolling, rescues, or strokes.

The cooks (Chris & David) start getting Gumbo heated up. Members are free to make a shuttle paddle to the North Shore Campground.

Sunday 3/26:  We'll play it by ear.  We have other activities to plug in, such as:

5.)  "Camp Out":  2-member teams. Both are blindfolded. Must set up a standard tent, complete with fly. Timed

6.)  "Umbrella Kayak Race".  Using an Umbrella and a single blade* paddle as a stern steer, racers must sail around floats (in a triangle) returning to base. Can only use the paddle for forward or back stroke around the floats.  The sailing is done with what is essentially a square-rigged set up.  *Paddle can be a half a 2-part kayak paddle or a canoe paddle.

7.)  North to South Park trip.  If interest and stamina allow, Lynne can lead an exploratory trip from LCRA's North Shore to South Shore parks.  Shuttle required but day passes work for both parks.  Approximately 4 miles.  Alternatively, we can just explore the South park area nearby inlets and watch for birds.
