We will meet at Deussen Park on Lake Houston at 8:30 to paddle to BJ's Marina on the northeast end of Lake Houston. We may or may not need to run a car shuttle first.  In the forecast 12 - 14 mph southerly wind, we will have some following seas and bulkhead chop, making this a good practice session for boat control and steering in such conditions. With wind and distance, this should be a Level 2 trip. There will be some boat traffic.  Spray skirts and ability to participate in assisted rescues, if necessary, are required. SOT kayak is fine fi you can control it on open water in the wind. Bring whatever safety and rescue gear you have (paddle float, bilge pump, radio, etc.)   Bring lunch, which we may eat at the takeout if timing goes as expected.

Here's our planned route:
Deussen to BJs Marina

Directions -- Get directions to Alexander Deussen Park or use the map link above. The park has three boat ramps. We will use the LEFTMOST ramp, which is the Deussen Kayak Ramp. There is ample parking and restrooms nearby. Shuttle plans will develop when we see how many paddlers we have.

No parking charge at Deussen Park. BJ's charges a small parking fee, $3 or $5.

Deussen Park Ramp

Lat - lon of the put-in is  30° 3'22.92"N,  95° 5'55.84"W

Hazards -- Dehydration!!! Bring more water than you think you need, at least 3 quarts. Have good sun protection - hat, sunscreen etc. Following wind and seas with bulkhead chop will cause boats to turn and wallow, so good opportunity to practice control. There is also a lot of small boat traffic in the area. The boat ramp may be slippery.  Fire ants, mosquitos, and (barely possible) bears, rattlesnakes, and tarantulas.
