This trip will be about 7 miles and possibly longer according to membership interests.

Trip Description:
We will shoot to launch by 10:00 AM, at the boat ramp on Hwy. 3, Dickinson, Texas.  We will paddle upstream towards Paul Hopkins Park, exploring as we go.  There are full bathroom facilities at Paul Hopkins Park on FM 517, on the way to the put-in.  There usually is a porta-can at the put-in.  We will paddle for about 7 - 8 miles, 4 hours (at least), round trip. There is a good barbecue place close by if we want to partake before heading back home.

This trip is suitable for all paddlers and kayak types, as long as they float when full of water (have some bouyancy).  Long sea kayaks may struggle in some tight bends.  Paddling effort level will be easy going.

Directions: Take I-45 South and exit FM 517.  Take FM 517 East (to the left under the freeway).  You will go over one little bayou, Paul Hopkins Park is on the right just before and after the bayou which might serve as a bathroom break ((Lat 29°27'18.14"N Lon 95° 4'1.72"W).   Cross at traffic light, turn right at next entrance to the park - restrooms are located at this parking lot.  Warning!  Second entrance may be closed for construction, so it might be better to turn into the first entrance and cross the footbridge in the park to get to the bathrooms.  Or, continue onward to Hwy 3, turn right and travel about 0.3 mile to 48th St. and turn right into the boat ramp area (Lat 29°27'25.34"N Lon 95° 2'53.02"W).

Note: these directions are a bit dated, and construction has continued since they were written.  Allow extra time in case a new route is needed.

Hazards: May include motor boat traffic, jet ski traffic, water snakes, submerged tree stumps, hanging limbs and branches, insects and wasps.

Bring plenty of drinking water to maintain hydration throughout the paddle.  Please be mindful of the weather and dress/pack accordingly. The weather will probably be warm to hot, but if cool don't wear cotton and have dry clothes with you in your kayak.
