We will paddle from a beach in Port Bolivar among the anchored ships there, staying well away from the ship channel to the south. Total mileage approximately 7-8 miles.

To get to the launch, ride the ferry from Galveston, go approximately 1.7 miles on hiway 87 to 16th street and turn right. Go .25 miles to the beach put in. I have not launched from there before and I do not know if there is a porta-potty. Hard sand beach for parking.

All paddlers must have a radio and be able to do a wet exit and a solo re-entry. There should not be much small boat traffic. Wind is forecast to be light from the south. There may be some swell from the Gulf so it will feel more "oceany." We will be a small group and will stay close together. At the launch we will survey weather and other conditions and decide if it is a "go." If not, there is another venue on the bay side of Bolivar, not far away, that we can pursue.

Note, the ferry gets busy on weekends. Arrive at the ferry early to get across. There may be a 1/2 hour wait. On the return drive home, the wait for the ferry gets long and it may be easier to exit Bolivar through High Island and Winnie and get back to Houston via IH10.
