Experience the 12.5 mile Seadrift Paddling Trail from Highway 35 near Tivoli to Seadrift - the final few miles of the Texas Water Safari (TWS).  The first 6+ miles includes the beautiful tree-lined meandering of the Guadalupe River before S finishing the last half with a navigation of the bay and Victoria barge channel to the TWS finish in Seadrift.

Meet at 8:30a on porch at 504 W Bay Avenue in Seadrift Texas  77983.  Parking is at the bayfront park across the street.

After shuttle from Seadrift, we put-in at Calhoun's Riverside RV retreat ($7 per vehicle) to proceed down the slow, narrow, tree-lined Guadalupe River to where the mouth joins the San Antonio Bay.  We will leave the riparian wildlife to enter the salt grass and sandy beaches and birds of the bay.  Kayakers - in bulkheaded/spray skirt sea kayaks or on sit-on-tops - will need to be able to paddle the last six miles in often windy, choppy conditions. You will be up to a half mile from shore during the six mile paddle across the shallow bay with a crossing of the Victoria Barge Canal.  Note that a bad weather option is the Mission Bay loop shown at the TPWD Seadrift Paddling Trail website.

Note -  This trip may offer surprises (hyacinths in the river, churning seas, fire-breathing dragons).  This nice thing about this area is that it offers many options.  Come prepared with a sense of adventure and flexibility.  We want a safe and fun trip!

For those staying or joining us on Sunday (March 7, 2021), we can (1) repeat this trip or (2) round-trip the Mission Lake Loop near the river or (3) round-trip Seadrift to Long Lake area of the bay.  Please see separate sign-up for Sunday, March 7.

That weekend, I will be staying at VRBO rented house across the street from the take-out in Seadrift.  Folks can rinse off bodies/boats/gear at the takeout at the Seadrift Bayfront Park or in the VRBO yard.  For those staying for Sunday, we can practice navigation or eat out at a local restaurant (within COVID guidelines) on Saturday night. Note that a bad weather option is the Mission Bay loop shown at the TPWD Seadrift Paddling Trail website.

Directions - Take-out parking is at Seadrift Bayfront Park across the street where I'm staying at 504 West Bay Ave Seadrift, TX 7798.

Hazards -- We will be crossing the Victoria Barge Canal with large boat traffic.  There also can be small boat traffic in the area. Logs and reefs are both above and below the water.  The boat ramp may be slippery.
