We will paddle into Galveston Bay and West to Bird Islands.   Because it is a state park, there will be a $5 use fee. Good parking and a nice, gentle, somewhat sandy put-in and facilities at the park entrance.

Be prepared to navigate fishermen and possibly some beach goers using the launch site.  There should be little to no motor boat traffic once out in the bay. Be prepared to do a little shuffle to warn the rays.

The park can be reached from Interstate 45 by exiting right onto 61st Street and traveling south on 61st Street to its intersection with Seawall Boulevard, and then right (west) on Seawall (FM 3005) 10 miles to the park entrance. You will need to go to park at HQ first to pay the day fee of $5, which will be to your left. Leave the HQ area, go straight across FM3005 and travel about a mile until it dead ends at our put in at Lake Como.

We will meet at 9:30 AM and launch at 10:00 AM

The Park HQ is located at:
Latitude
(degrees, minutes, seconds) N:  29° 11' 55.10"
Longitude (degrees, minutes, seconds) W:  94° 57' 23.40"

GISP - Bird Islands

Hazards -- Sunburn, windburn, heat exhaustion, bottom-scraping oysters, pilings, boat traffic,  jellyfish, stingrays, fire ants. We will try to avoid hazards. Most importantly, bring plenty of water, sun protection and lunch/snacks.
