This trip is at its limit for participants unless we have another Trip Leader. If you are a TL who wants to join us, let me know and I'll sign you up and expand the trip.

Meet at 9:30 to launch at 10 AM. This will be a 10+ mile paddle at a brisk, but not desperate, pace of about 3 mph or a little more. The goal is to practice making efficient headway in conditions of some wind and waves, which may be somewhat challenging depending on conditions. We will also likely do a little open water rescue practice if it's not too rough. The location of this paddle is convenient to Sunday's SABP Partnership paddle near Victoria. The SABP paddle is separately posted on the calendar but it is not a HASK event.

If it so windy that the lake is very choppy, we can move the paddle to Mustang Creek, which is more protected. That would launch from a different boat ramp.

We will launch from the boat ramp on Hwy 59  that is at the southeast corner of the Lake Texana bridge.
The boat launch is on the south- east side of the bridge immediately before it goes over Lake Texana off a short gravel feeder road.   If there is traffic on 59, it's safer to cross the bridge over the lake, turn around when you can, and come back over the bridge from west to east. You'll be exiting directly from the freeway itself; please be careful.

Lat - lon of the put-in is    29° 1.506'N,   96° 32.927'W

We will launch at 10, paddle about 5 miles south, and stop for lunch at Brackenridge Park. There are no bathroom facilities at the boat ramp and your best bet is a pretty good TA truck stop on the east edge of Ganado just off Hwy 59. Exit HWY 59 South at County Road 270 (Airport Road). The TA sign should be visible. If you miss that, there are a couple of gas stations in the town of Ganado. Brackenridge Park does have rest room facilities and water, although a modest hike may be required.

So bring rain gear, lunch, plenty of water, ibuprofen, sunscreen, a hat, and dress for immersion for a little rescue practice. Have a set of warm clothing in a dry bag in your boat. Paddling hazards are the usual slippery boat ramp, mosquitos, wasps, snakes, and reptiles, both legged and legless.

In this expanded view just west of Texana, the green pin is the entrance to the gravel road to the boat ramp (yellow pin). One must U-turn onto Hwy 59 northbound to turn right at the green pin to a gravel road to the ramp. The U-turn can be done either at the depicted turnaround just SW of the green pin or at another turnaround on the west side of the lake, which allows more time to exit right at the green pin. Have I confused you?
