NOTE THE CHANGE IN PUT-IN FROM THE ORIGINAL POSTING Trip Description: Meet at 9:30 to paddle at 10. This will be a 10 - 11 mile Level 2 exercise paddle, meaning that we will maintain a steady pace of 3 mph or greater. That is a brisk but not race pace. Occasional impromptu short sprints will not be discouraged. We will put in at Scenic Shore Park. We will paddle eastward across Lake Houston to Ponderosa Marina in Huffman for a lunch/rest stop and then paddle back to Scenic Shore Park. There may be some boat or jet ski traffic.
Directions to the Put-in: The put-in is about 30 miles from downtown Houston. Head north on US 59 (I-69), exit at Kingwood Drive (east) and drive 6 miles to Willow Terrace Drive. Turn right, drive 0.9 miles, and turn right onto Palisade Falls Trail. Continue onto Scenic Shore Drive. Lat - lon is 30° 2'31.34"N, 95° 9'15.90"W
Hazards: The concrete boat ramp at Ponderosa Marina may be slick. There will be some boat or jet ski traffic. The water is still cool (50-60) so a set of dry clothes should be carried in case of emergency. Remember to dress for possible immersion. Make sure to bring rain gear, ample water, and lunch.
