Last comfort facilities are in Ganado, before the launch site.

Trip Description:

The put-in is a boat ramp adjacent to a parking lot.  There are no facilities at this launch site.  We will paddle up Mustang Creek, a rather remote wildlife area, for about 4.5 miles and find a place to take out for lunch.  On the last trip in this area we saw alligators on logs and in the shallows, nutria swimming and on logs, a swamp hawk with a snake in its mouth, and other wildlife.  Greatest paddling obstacles are submerged stumps, and shallows to avoid occasionally. Lake Texana can be windy.

From Houston, drive south on US 59 (about 90 miles) and take the Ganado exit, FM 710 and turn left under US 59.  At the Loop 522 (York St.), turn right and continue about 2 miles to FM 2982.  Turn left on FM 2982, continue for about 2.1 miles to CR 249 (Boat Ramp sign on the right at this intersection). Turn left and following this road to the parking lot for the boat ramp.  The last comfort station will be in Ganado, as there are no facilities at the put-in. There is a Dairy queen in Ganado on the way home.
Lat - lon of the put-in is 28.999370-96.529544

Hazards may include submerged obstacles in the water; alligators, wasps and bees, poison ivy and fire ants on the banks, snakes and rodents.  Boat traffic will be minimal, if at all.
Remember to dress for immersion and always carry one or more extra sets of warm clothing in a dry bag in your hatch.
